Frequently Asked Questions
How does the MP3 format work?
The MP3 files are put into albums, with one album per cassette and one MP3 per song/side.  These files come on a normal data CD to play in computers and MP3 players like Apple iPods, but cannot be played in a CD player.

What is Wav format?
Wav format is normal CD format. If you're not sure which format you should choose, choose Wav because you will know if you require MP3.

What does personalised track names mean?
If you have personalised track names on CDs/MP3s then the name of the track that you are playing comes up on your CD/MP3 player (if it has that feature).  This can be done for a small extra charge, but you must provide the names of the songs on the cassette.

Is each song on a different track?
Songs will only be broken up into individual tracks if there is a silent break between them of two or more seconds.

How do I tell what is on what CD?
All CDs are placed into double sided CD sleeves which are labelled with the name from the corresponding cassette.  If your cassette has not been labelled then each cassette and corresponding CD sleeve will be numbered.  Please note that we do not do CD labels.

Can you put two or more short cassettes onto one CD?
CDs
No, cassettes cannot be combined and the same price is charged per cassette regardless of the cassette length.

MP3 Format
Yes, cassettes are put onto as few CDs as possible and each cassette will have it's own album.

Can you convert two or more copies from one cassette?
For different quantities please contact us and we can sort you out with a good price.

Can you convert part of a cassette?
Even if you don't want part of a cassette converted, the whole cassette must be done in case the wrong part gets done.  However, if one side of the cassette is blank, please let us know so that side isn't converted.  Also, if part of a side is blank, it won't be converted onto CD.

Can you convert cassettes containing spoken word such as speeches, interviews, books on tape, etc?
Yes. However, there is only one track for each side of the cassette, so you cannot have personalised track names with spoken word cassettes.

Can you do noise/hiss reduction?
No. The CD or MP3 sounds just like the cassette. Noise/hiss reduction is very time-consuming and therefore costly to do. Also, it is very much a personal choice as to which kinds of sounds to remove, and Cassette Converters doesn't want to make those choices for you.

Can you do normalization?
Yes, this is done just before the tracks are burnt onto a CD and each track is done individually.

Can you do special requests?
Please phone or email Cassette Converters if you require anything other than the standard procedure, as we will help you if we can and sort out a price for it.

What about payment and postage?
Cassette Converters takes payment through PayPal.  For online orders, you will receive an email with a link to PayPal, where you will find your Invoice and payment details.  For order forms posted with cassettes, Cassette Converters will telephone you to take payment, unless you provide an email address. Cassette Converters is not responsible for cassettes damaged or lost in the post when sent to us, so you are advised to pack your cassettes in a well padded envelope and obtain a Certificate of Posting from the Post Office.  If your cassettes are irreplaceable you may want to copy them and send us the copies, or pay extra postage to receive a higher amount of compensation for any damage or loss.  Cassette Converters informs you by email or phone on the day that your cassettes are received and again on the day that your order is posted back to you.  Cassette Converters posts your order (including your cassettes) back to you using the Post Office 1st class recorded service.  This means that your package can be tracked and traced during delivery but it requires a signature on delivery.
